Cave

Caves in Laos are some of the most extensive limestone cave systems in Asia.

caves

Vang Vieng, is famous for karst mountains and caves.

Konglor Cave in central Laos' Khammouane Province is one of the most spectacular. This 7.5 km long cave has a river flowing all the way through and small boats travel through it.

Khammouane has a limestone forest with the highest concentrations of caves in Laos, and in 2004, 229 Buddha images were discovered in Tham Pa Fa.

Laos' most famous caves are in Houaphan Province's Vieng Xay district. These caves served as a fortress-like base for the Lao Revolutionary Forces during the Second Indochina War.

Luang Namtha's Vieng Phoukha, has little known Phou Prasat or Tham Kao Rao.

Well known caves are the Tham Pa in Xieng Khouang and Tham Ting in Luang Prabang.

Below are two examples of Caving adventure offered by Green Discovery Laos

Caving and Trekking challenge

(1 day)

This great day of adventure and fun leads us to a cave recently discovered, a 2km long tunnel filled with water and mud. We explore the first 1km by swimming (and crawling) through the cave, equipped with a waterproof headlight and a life jacket. After 1km, we reach vast rooms filled with stalactites and stalagmites, some of them measuring over four meters.
Pay attention on the way as traces of beavers have been found, and hundreds of bats are living in the cave. Fossils are a common encounter.

After emerging from the darkness, we have a picnic lunch and we head toward the famous Buddha Cave, which has been rediscovered only in April 2004. The cave contains 229 bronze Buddhas that are said to be over 300 years old.

We then return to Thakek through the magnificent road n12 in the middle of a carst scenery.
