Laos put its tourism products in the spotlight at the world's largest trade fair, the ITB (Internationale Tourismus Börse), held in Berlin, Germany, from March 8-12.
According to the Tourism Marketing Promotion Department of the Information, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Laos was one of 187 countries setting up a total of 10,000 booths in the travel exhibition at the trade fair last week.
The Lao delegation was led by the department's Acting Director General, Mr Sounh Manivong. Their attendance aimed to promote Laos as an attractive tourist destination and publicise its appeal to visitors from Europe, America and other regions.
This year, the Lao booth stressed the country's natural beauty through the theme �Experiencing nature, culture and history'. The slogan for the event was �Laos - Simply Beautiful'.
The Lao booth attracted many visitors, tour operators, businesspeople and media who learnt about the various sites and products through videos and tourism brochures, maps and handbooks.
Lao tourism operators also exchanged information with and bought products from foreign tour operators.
Laos also took the opportunity to promote �Visit Laos Year 2018' and the Mekong Tourism Forum that will take place in Luang Prabang province in early June this year.
The forum will provide a cooperative platform for stakeholders in the tourism industry to discuss the development, marketing and promotion of travel to, from and within the Greater Mekong Subregion.
