As for every rescue happening at the Center, we were really proud to announce the arrival of a new elephant at the Center. In April, we managed to gathersufficientfunds to purchase Mae Khoun Song. InLao language, song means "two" or "second"... As this cow elephant shares her name with another female living in the Center - Mae Khoun - we added the "number two" after her name to differentiate them.
As you may know, as soon as our costs are covered, all the extra income goes straight to our conservation projects. It is thanks to your support and visit that we are able to continue our socialization and reproduction programme. None of this would have been possible without you!
In the video, you can see how Mae Khoun Song was brought to the Center from Thongmixay district. She was transported by truck while one of her mahouts stayed in the back to reassure her. The trip didn’t go completely as planned due to a flat tire, but we were eventually happy to welcome her at the Center where she could start meeting the other members of the herd.
After all these months she has been successfully introduced to the group. She has also been trained at the hospital to undergo treatments and checks.
