Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith is leading a Lao delegation on a working visit to Cambodia on April 4-5 to attend the Mekong River Commission (MRC)’s third summit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Mr Thongloun is attending the summit at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart, Samdech Hun Sen.
Prime ministers from the MRC member countries - Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam - and ministerial representatives from the MRC’s dialogue partners of China and Myanmar are expected to attend the summit and related meetings taking place in Siem Reap from April 2-5.
The summit will discuss opportunities and challenges facing the Mekong, including climate change and the sustainable management and development of water and related resources such as hydropower, irrigation, navigation, floods and drought, and the environment.
During his visit, Prime Minister Thongloun is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
He will also hold bilateral talks with Samdech Hun Sen, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement.
